Sydney is getting a brand-new airport, giving travellers more choice when flying to Australia's largest city.
Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) officially welcomes passenger flights from 25 October 2026, opening as Australia's first major greenfield airport in decades. Located in Sydney's fast-growing west, WSI is designed to deliver a smoother, simpler airport experience with modern technology, faster processing times, and easy access to Western Sydney and beyond.
Whether you're flying from New Zealand for a city break, family holiday, business trip or connecting to other Australian destinations, WSI offers another convenient gateway into Sydney.
Western Sydney International Airport is located in Luddenham, around a 45-minute drive from many parts of Sydney via the new toll-free M12 motorway.
The airport has been designed to support the growing Western Sydney region while also providing travellers with an alternative to Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport (SYD).

For Kiwi travellers, Air New Zealand will launch the first international flights to WSI from 26 October 2026.
The new service gives New Zealand travellers another option when visiting Sydney and strengthens connections across the Tasman.
WSI will also connect travellers with key Australian cities.
This makes it easier for visitors arriving from New Zealand to continue exploring Australia with convenient domestic connections under one roof.

Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) opens to passengers on 25 October 2026.
The airport will operate 24 hours a day, with the first domestic flights departing from opening day and the first Air New Zealand flights from Auckland commencing on 26 October 2026.
Cargo operations begin earlier in July 2026.
Several airlines have already announced services from Western Sydney International Airport, including Air New Zealand, Jetstar, Qantas and Singapore Airlines. From Auckland, Air New Zealand will offer direct flights, while Jetstar and Qantas will connect travellers to popular Australian cities such as Melbourne, Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
