Children travelling and special needs

In the following cases where we are unable to process certain special requirements you may have if you book online, please contact the Mix & Match Call Centre on 0800 367 468 or help@mixandmatch.co.nz

Health and Safety

If any of the following applies to yourself or anyone you are making a booking for, please contact the Mix & Match Call Centre on 0800 367 468 or help@mixandmatch.co.nz who will be able to ensure you receive the right information for your circumstances:

  • Visually impaired/blind passengers
  • Deaf or speech impaired passengers
  • Mobility impaired passengers (anyone who needs help boarding or de-boarding) (including requiring wheelchair assistance).
  • Require an escort or care-giver for any reason
  • Need to carry medication, medical supplies or equipment
  • Are suffering from any illness or disease may make it unsafe for you to fly or others to fly with you, for example chicken pox, measles.
  • Most pre-existing medical conditions will not prevent you from flying. However if you have a pre-existing medical condition, each airline has their own restrictions around pre-existing medical conditions. To find out what constitutes a pre-existing medical condition and whether it will effect your eligibility to fly, please call 0800 367 468, or talk to one of our outlets, some examples can be found here

We advise you that it is best to book via our Mix & Match Call Centre on 0800 367 468 or help@mixandmatch.co.nz if any of the following apply:

  • You are travelling with a newborn
  • You have had recent surgery
  • Other points to note:
  • DVT - Deep Vein Thrombosis, if you feel you are at risk of DVT please contact your doctor before travel

Children/Infants

Please contact the Mix & Match Call Centre on 0800 367 468 or help@mixandmatch.co.nz if any of the following applies to yourself or the people you are booking, as they cannot be booked online.

  • Children (0-11 years old) travelling alone or travelling without an Adult 18yrs old or over
  • Please note that not all airlines accept Unaccompanied Minors, and some have specific requirements for their bookings
  • Air New Zealand charge a fee for Unaccompanied Minors. Please contact us for full details. For Domestic New Zealand bookings, Air New Zealand requires unaccompanied minors to be booked on a Seat+Bag Fare (fare including a checked bag) as a minimum. For Trans Tasman bookings, Air New Zealand requires unaccompanied minors to be booked on a Works Fare (fare including a meal and inflight entertainment).
  • Qantas charge a fee for Unaccompanied Minors, approx. AU$90. Please contact us for full details.
  • Jetstar only accept children travelling alone if they are attending secondary school, and may require proof at check in. One accompanying passenger can assist up to four adult passengers that don’t meet Jetstar's independent traveller requirements. An accompanying passenger for adults must be at least 15 years old.
  • American Airlines charge a fee for unaccompanied minors (aged 05-14 years old at time of travel), approx. USD$150. Please contact us for full details.
  • United Airlines charge a fee for unaccompanied minors (aged 05-15 years old at time of travel), approx. USD$150. Please contact us for full details.
  • Passengers aged 12-15 years who wish to be classified as an unaccompanied minor (please note some airlines levy an additional charge for this).
  • When booking accommodation, there must be at least 1 adult staying in each room booked.
  • Travelling to South Africa: There are strict rules for children under the age of 18 travelling with or without parents. Please contact us for full details.
  • If your child is connecting to or from another carrier they will only be accepted if a parent or guardian is available to deliver and receive the child at both ends of the Air New Zealand flight. The child must be checked in for only the Air New Zealand flight, claim baggage and clear Customs (if applicable) and be handed over to the parent/guardian to check in for the next flight. The parent/guardian will need to remain in the intermediary airport until after the aircraft departs. In the case of delays or flight cancellations, the parent/guardian is responsible for the Unaccompanied Minor's care.

Luggage

  • Travelling with animals (including guide dogs)
  • Travelling with dangerous goods/objects. For a list of goods that are classed as dangerous please talk to one of our outlets
  • Need to carry medication, medical supplies or equipment
  • We advise you that it is best to book with one of our Online consultants on 0800 367 468, or in an outlet, if any of the following apply:
  • You need to transport a large amount of luggage, large items such as sporting gear, musical instruments
  • Other points to note:
  • Each airline has their own rules regarding the use of electronics in flight.

General

Other points to note:

  • Always ensure you have the appropriate passport and visas to enter your destination

  • Smoking is not permitted on any aircraft flying to/from New Zealand
