              Domestic travel requirements.

With the Auckland boundary settings changing on 15 December, Aucklanders who have been vaccinated or tested will be able to reconnect with the rest of New Zealand in time for Christmas and summer.

To minimise the risk of COVID-19 spreading from Auckland to other parts of the country, travellers will have to be either fully vaccinated or have a negative test within 72 hours of departure. This requirement will be in place for the core summer period of 15 December 2021 to 17 January 2022, subject to change.

Each domestic carrier has travel requirements, and these are detailed below.

              Air New Zealand

              • From 15 December, all travellers 12 years, 3 months* and over will be asked to present proof of either full vaccination or provide evidence of a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours before departure.
              • All vaccines and tests approved by the New Zealand Government will be accepted.
              • Travellers who have a negative test result taken within 72 hours before departure can present either the free community text message result or doctor’s letter at a check-in counter
              • A digital solution will make it as easy as possible. Travellers can show proof of vaccination (or exemption) by uploading their QR code from the Government’s My Vaccine Pass. This can be done at check-in, mobile app or at the kiosk. If you don’t check-in online before arriving at the airport, you can present your printed My Vaccine Pass at the airport or kiosk.
              • These requirements apply across the entire domestic network

*This requirement applies to all travellers aged 12 years, 3 months or older. Air New Zealand is allowing a 3 month grace period for 12-year-olds to receive both vaccinations. And wait the 2-week stand-down period prior to the vaccination becoming effective.

              Jetstar

              • Passengers travelling out of Auckland from 15 December will need to be fully vaccinated or have a negative test 72 hours prior to departure, to leave Auckland and visit other parts of the country.
              • This requirement will remain in place during the core summer period until 17 January 22.
              • Face masks are mandatory on all flights and the onboard service (food and beverage) has been temporarily suspended. Masks are available at departure gates in the Fly Well pack.
              • NZ COVID Tracer app QR code posters are available at check-in counters.

              Air Chathams

              • Proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test for all travellers is required. This policy will be introduced as soon as New Zealand moves to the new COVID-19 protection framework in the upcoming weeks.
              • Customers will be expected to travel with a physical or digital copy of their COVID-19 Vaccination Certificates (CVCs). If customers do not have a CVC, they must have proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of departure.
              • Air Chathams recognise that passengers departing the Chatham Islands may have difficulty in ascertaining proof of a negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours due to the isolation of the Chathams. For these circumstances only, Air Chathams will accept proof of a negative COVID-19 test taken within 7 days prior to departure.

Please note that as this situation may evolve quickly, we encourage you to please check the latest government advice prior to travel.
